Chris Johnson didn’t get any votes for MVP. He didn’t miss any for The Associated Press 2009 NFL All-Pro team.
The 2,000-yard rusher from the Tennessee Titans was the only unanimous choice for the squad, which was announced Thursday. He’s joined in the backfield by Colts quarterback Peyton Manning, who won an unprecedented fourth Most Valuable Player Award last week, when only quarterbacks received votes.
“That’d be a good thing,” said Johnson, who won the Offensive Player of the Year award Wednesday. “Because I feel like if you put a season out there, out of those dudes who got votes or the dudes who won, I wouldn’t feel they had a better season than I had, and broke as many records in one season that I had.”

That blur speeding away from opposing defenses and running off with The Associated Press 2009 NFL Offensive Player of the Year award is Tennessee Titans running back Chris Johnson.
Considered the fastest man in pro football, Johnson was uncatchable in setting a league mark for yards from scrimmage (2,509) and becoming the sixth player with a 2,000-yard rushing season.
He is the first NFL player to finish with at least 2,000 yards rushing and 500 receiving (503).
That earned the second-year pro 38½ votes Wednesday from a nationwide panel of 50 sportswriters and broadcasters who cover the NFL. Johnson easily beat New Orleans quarterback Drew Brees, who received nine votes.

Titans Coach Jeff Fisher warned the 49ers that Chris Johnson’s speed could not be replicated in practice
One day after the second-year pro rushed for a franchise-record 228 yards against the Jaguars, Fisher relayed a story about a unique method one team employed to prepare for Hall of Famer Barry Sanders’ speed, quickness and ability to change direction in a split second.
“Teams tried to do all kinds of things,” Fisher said. “I remember one team in particular brought a chicken out on the field and let the defense chase the chicken around, desperately trying to simulate the type of speed and quickness.”
What happened?

During his team’s winless streak to start the season, Titans coach Jeff Fisher was clear about his starting quarterback — Kerry Collins, no questions asked.
Coming off the bye weekend and heading into Sunday’s game against the Jaguars, however, Fisher isn’t making the same commitment.
“We’ve had a week to do some different things and considering the circumstances we’re in right now with the record, there’s things that you need to do differently,” Fisher said on Monday. “Let’s just say I am not going to be as specific and open-ended from a competitive standpoint.”
Fisher made it clear he remains confident in Collins, who has completed 54.8 percent of his passes with five touchdowns and eight interceptions. Vince Young came off the bench the past two games for mop-up duty.

For the second week in a row Titans quarterback Kerry Collins watched the end of a game from the sideline, the outcome well out of his control.
Vince Young replaced Collins in the third quarter of an eventual 59-0 loss to the Patriots, and the 15th-year pro said he is not sure what happens next, now that the Titans are 0-6.
“I am not going to assume anything at this point,’’ Collins said. “I still feel like I am the quarterback of this team and this is my team. I give us a chance to win when I go out there.’’
Coach Jeff Fisher would not discuss his plans at quarterback after the game.

While Coach Jeff Fisher has publicly backed veteran Kerry Collins, it’s time for a decision on when to replace the 15th-year veteran with Vince Young.
The Titans will owe Young $14.2 million if he is on the team next year.
Since he hasn’t played any significant minutes since throwing two interceptions early in last year’s season opener, the Titans need to evaluate Young, and there is no time like 0-5 and counting.
Fisher inserted Young with 7:26 on the game clock Sunday night, the Titans trailing the Colts 31-9. When informed by offensive coordinator Mike Heimerdinger he was going in, Young turned and looked at the scoreboard. Young’s body language said he wasn’t interested in mop-up duty.

Kerry Collins is entrenched as the Titans starting quarterback, so unless the 15th-year pro is injured or has a streak of poor performances, former No. 3 overall pick Vince Young will spend another season on the bench.
There is a way, however, the Titans could utilize both players — the Wildcat, the trendy offensive formation formerly known as the Wing-T.
Its veer options, direct snaps and other trickery offer increased opportunities to showcase players whose unique skills allow them to scramble or throw, aggravating defenses.
Sounds a lot like Young, whose playmaking abilities earned him NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year honors in 2006.
If Young is excited about the potential to be part of a Wildcat, however, he’s keeping quiet about it. While he recognizes the many ways the scheme fits his game, the fourth-year pro said during the preseason he has no rooting interest in trying it out.

Tennessee receiver Nate Washington injured his right hamstring during practice Monday running a long pass route. He walked off the field with a team doctor and trainer and an MRI exam was planned to determine the extent of the injury.
The receiver was running during an individual pass drill when he went down, grabbing at the back of his right leg and yelling. Trainers tended to him, and Washington walked off the field to the locker room on his own. He was not available in the locker room after practice.
Washington was the Titans’ top free agent pickup this offseason, leaving Pittsburgh to sign a six-year deal in March. He was signed to boost a passing offense that ranked just 27th in the NFL in 2008 for a team that went 13-3.

Titans Coach Jeff Fisher hasn’t ruled out starting Vince Young in a preseason game, but it won’t be Friday night’s meeting with the Cowboys.
Kerry Collins will start against Dallas, Fisher said Sunday. But after a sluggish performance in Saturday’s 27-20 victory over the Buccaneers, the first-team offense might play the entire first half, with Young replacing Collins at some point.
Coaches want to evaluate Young in a variety of situations as he battles Patrick Ramsey for the No. 2 quarterback role.
